Zarif Design Zarif Design opened in 2004, with the aim of reviving Afghan art and culture. After training women in design, including patternmaking, cutting, sewing, stitching, Zarif Design presented its first highly-acclaimed collection in Kabul in the summer of 2005. Zarif means fine or precious in Dari. Its creations employ the skills of local Afghan women in intricate hand embroidery. Zarif's tailors use traditional silk chapans (men’s jackets from Mazar-i-Sharif) to create new striking and magnificently finished coats for both men and women. The timeless lines of the full Zarif collection of fitted shirts, coats and skirts perfectly bridge Central Asian tradition with contemporary Western sensibilities. Zarif Design demonstrates the tremendous possibilities of merging new creative designs with time-honored arts to satisfy contemporary taste. While promoting cultural preservation, this endeavor also enables traditional and high quality Afghan craft to drive economic development. More information about Embroidery... |
